]]> Ride2Nowhere –Definitely isn’t to nowhere…

This past weekend saw the inaugural running of the Ride2Nowhere, a three day Mountain Bike stage race based in the beautiful town of McGregor. Steeped in history and rich in architecture, McGregor proved to be the perfect location for this family oriented event.

The route, averaging 60km a day, took the riders on a clover leaf around McGregor, providing spectacular views and testing terrain that rewarded both the experienced and novice mountain bikers. Relatively short riding times meant that the riders would be finished before lunch time, leaving plenty time to experience the charm of McGregor with their loved ones.

Highlights out on the route included a 300m dam crossing on inflatable boats on day 1, which by all accounts was thoroughly enjoyed, although word from the crew on the waters edge is that mountain bikers should stick to riding! Riders were treated to top class water points, with a lavish spread of all foods and drinks you needed, including the award winning Lords wines. The relaxed atmosphere at these stops led to much banter and summed up the amazing vibe of the event.

At the sharp end of the field it was Louis Brestler-Knipe showing his current form, riding to an easy victory on all 3 days. The mens team race was won by Erik Kleinhans and ChristiaanKriek (Christiaan back home after a successful road season in USA) with the ladies team of ArianeKleinhans and Leane de Jager cruising to an easy victory in their category. In the mixed teams Grant Kruger and Nicole Erasmus took the top place and in the solo ladies Vanessa Haywood,local actress, celebrity and sports addict, celebrated the win!

The riders were kept highly entertained in the evenings with Paul Valstar and HendrikLemmer conducting hilarious prize givings and route briefings. Great local live music every night and fire throwing was a treat and enjoyed by all.

This special event was incredibly well organised, from catering, bike wash, route and entertainment. The dates have been set for 13 –15 Sept 2013, see you there.
